Getting things done and shipping it is really hard for me, because I am more of a Pareto guy. I do things 8020. I don’t like to acknowledge it, but I have to come to terms with the fact that I don’t ship enough. Getting things done and shipping it is really hard. I try to meet a certain quality standard before publishing work, even for rough drafts. But bringing ideas up to at least this standard requires work that i then cannot commit to something else. So a lot of the time I don’t really finish things properly, but let them linger half-baked somewhere on my hard drive. For some ideas, this is ok. A lot of those ideas are just little scribbles and their purpose is solely to be an intermediary step to something bigger. But I am always thinking about how I can increase my quota of shipped ideas I actually brought to the finish line. There’s a difference between tinkering and getting things .

The main difficulty is wanting to do too much. Instead of starting something new every time the urge becomes strong, you should pause for a moment and think about what you actually want to get out of pursuing the urge. Try to think about what you want to achieve and if this is beneficial for your development.
Your mentality is what gets things done. And if a project is too big, break it down into smaller, more manageable parts, then start with those smaller things. And if you are stuck on breaking things down, try to discuss your idea with an LLM. They are good for things like that. Use them as a thinking tool. Don’t let them do the work for you. Use them to get unstuck, get things going and get things done.
The older you get, the less time you have. The less time you have the more important it is to focus. time blocking can help to stop overthinking when to do what. And doing certain things at certain hours in the day or days in the week helps you with forming a habit
Habits are very powerful for getting things done, because once something is a habit you don’t have to think about it — you just do it. Getting things done becomes much easier that way.
